Kathmandu: tremor Himalayas
• Kathmandu: Himalayan shiver
We thought that Nepal will not fall: in a couple of weeks before the trip to the country was the strongest since 1934, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8. And just the day before our arrival of a magnitude 7.3 aftershock occurred points.
Surprisingly, the city suffered not so much as we expected.
The fully collapsed mainly very old houses built of mud bricks and wooden beams.
In Kathmandu for several decades houses are built in the same way as the past few years in our seymoysmoaktivnoy Khakassia: reinforced concrete monolithic frame with brick obkladyvaetsya. At such houses only little cracks. I even felt relaxed at our Abakan - I am personally convinced that the monolithic structure is indeed very strong.
In the photo: the old shack collapsed completely, and adjoined to it a monolithic house does not hurt.
However, in Nepal, killing more than 8000 people, mostly residents of rural areas, where the rise building is practically not developed.
The city has many rescuers. In addition to the analysis of these blockages are engaged in police, military and ordinary volunteers.

Campgrounds are provided with everything necessary. Where hot meals.
And the supply of fresh drinking water
is supplied with electricity, it is possible to charge mobile phones.
The first frame, made in Nepal. All Kathmandu airport littered with humanitarian aid from around the world. Runway air harbor earthquake also badly damaged - a ban on the takeoff and landing of wide-bodied aircraft.
Nepal has always been a seismically active region and its residents were prepared to take action in the event of an earthquake. On some buildings even hang special information boards.
And on one of the walls we found a drawing dedicated to disaster. He was obviously drawn long before the catastrophe.
It is a pity destroyed unique architectural monuments, many of which dates back several centuries of its history. As now seems the famous Durbar Square:
The procedure to Kathmandu put things fast enough. Rubble on the site of the collapsed buildings was dismantled not everywhere but the sidewalks and the roadway is completely cleared of debris. The city lives a full life, there is hot water, electricity, mobile communications and the Internet - it works almost without interruption.
Open all the hotels and restaurants, only travelers on the streets very little: almost all foreigners hastily left, and probably not soon will dare to come back here. Especially that continuing aftershocks magnitude reaches 4 - 5 points. And we ourselves feel them every day.
The bodies of the victims to get out of the rubble in a few weeks. This small river is a tributary of the sacred to all Hindus, the Ganges River. Therefore, many of the dead people are cremated first right on the waterfront, and then dumped their ashes into the water.
funeral pyres burn the clock - so many dead.

Kathmandu, we saw a very interesting and unusual city with a special atmosphere and colorful people. He is not unlike any other city in the world. Around him extraordinary beauty, very close to the highest mountains of the planet - the Himalayas. It is hoped that such disasters are not repeated in the near future, the country will depart from the shock, and life will return to normal.
