• for villas Vicenza Walk
To the south of the center of Vicenza, there are two villas that deserve attention. This Villa "La Rotonda" and Villas dwarfs. On them will be discussed in this post. Villa "La Rotonda" - one of the most iconic projects of Palladio.
The architect was commissioned by a church dignitary Paolo Almerico. But during the years shotgun house several names formed from the names of owners: Almerico, and Capra Valmarana.
How many other buildings of Palladio, the villa finishing work of his disciple and follower - Vincenzo Scamozzi. In particular - he completed the dome imitating the dome of the Roman Pantheon. Another, the most commonly used name, "La Rotonda", Villa won for the shape of the central hall and the dome itself same villa in terms of a square, with four protruding symmetrical facades.
In the portico of the facade of each of 6 Ionic columns.
At the time of construction of the villa was totally different from other similar facilities in both appearance and design. Due to successfully implemented the ideas of Palladio and Scamozzi, Villa was such a success that all over the world have been built dozens of analogs (examples: St. Sophia Cathedral in Tsarskoye Selo, Manor Monticello Thomas Jefferson, Chisuik House near London, Manor Mereworth Castle, "Palestine House" on the mountain Gerizim, Henbari Hall in Cheshire, and so on. d.)
From the "Rotunda" to Midgets Villas is pleasant narrow path.
In general, it should be said that the local landscape very pleasant sight, even in a rather cloudy days of March.
Back to Villa dwarfs. This manor house is still owned by the family Valmarana. The name given by the sculptures of dwarfs or gnomes, lined up on one of the garden fence. With these dwarfs associated legend that once this place was a great castle or palace, which was the owner's daughter and the father of a dwarf, in order to protect their child from the sad lack of awareness of their hired servants only dwarfs and no one else was allowed to see his daughter. But once the villa has got a young tall prince, seeing that little girl understood everything and immediately jumped out the window, and all her servants petrified with grief, or have been turned into stone statues as punishment.
