Our modern gadgets, of course, are very compact, smart and hit their capabilities. Nevertheless, it should be noted that they are also incredibly boring, they resemble one another like twins. You can compare them with the intricate inner workings of their predecessors.
In today's cell phones are crammed with hundreds of useful functions and executes them a small chip. Interesting news gadgets come out every day and almost every day, companies release new and new electronic gadgets. But they resemble each other. In a series of works called "Calculator", the photographer Kevin Toomey praises obsolete technologies, photographing the insides of old calculators.

The project originally came about when Mark Glusker, a mechanical engineer and collector of vintage calculators, Twomey asked to photograph his collection of ancient computers.

Kevin Toomey says: "When Mark took off his cap to show a complex internal calculators device, I immediately realized that it might be interesting to other people. It is so unimaginable how these complex gears, springs and levers are able to exercise the computational steps, with an entirely different principle of operation than today's calculators and gadgets. "
