• Sleeping pair in the "Waiting"
At one point, a young photographer from St. Petersburg Yana Romanova found that virtually all of her friends began to prepare for the emergence of children. At the same time the main topics of conversation around pregnancy began, the children and the upcoming changes in life. "By this it was difficult to get used to. I always try to solve their problems with the help of pictures, so I decided to do this project, "- says the photographer. See what came of it.
Jan did not want the couple to pose, so I decided to shoot, while they sleep. Sometimes she stayed in them for the night, and sometimes came early in the morning and waited in the kitchen until they fall asleep again.
The photos were taken around 5-6 in the morning on weekends, when no one has to get up early and rush to work. "It's time that people care less about their appearance, and if you look closely, you can imagine how they relate to each other and the new life that has already appeared in their family," - explains the photographer.
filmed all their pregnant friends, Ian decided to continue the project. To do this, she began to look for pregnant women on the Internet and write emails to them with a proposal to participate in the project. As a result, she spent two years trying to find 40 pairs, "personifying" 40 weeks of pregnancy.
In order to achieve the desired shooting angle, John climbs on a ladder-a ladder. Thus we can "spy" for sleeping on top.
In the course of the project it was found that the majority of the participating couples 20-30 years. Therefore John believes that its project - not just a catalog of people sleeping in different positions, but also a section of a generation of young families living in large cities of modern Russia.
The author herself is amazing that all the couples were so different. "I was sure that I will have many of the same portraits of people sleeping in the same positions," - says John.
The project has received international recognition and have been exhibited in galleries in Russia and abroad.
