Camping in the exclusion zone from stalker (part 10)
So we got to the most interesting in my opinion the object in the Exclusion Zone. This Soviet-horizon radar station "Arc" system for the early detection of launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles. "Doug" was the last and one of the most important objects that I wanted to see. It is located about 10 kilometers away from the station ... if it is a straight line. But we had to go more than 20 km in the rain
According to the plan, we came out of the Pripyat at 22:00, to "Arc" we had to walk to 4 o'clock in the morning. As luck would have it, shortly before it started to rain, which did not stop all night. Not the most pleasant experience - to go 20 kilometers in total darkness, even in the rain. Plus, we came across a herd of Przewalski horses sleep, when they came across the field. Horses seem too frightened us, but refused to leave the road and were extremely aggressive. Because of them, we had to make a detour of 3 kilometers. But despite all this, we went to the "Arc" at the appointed time.
Why so early? It's simple - Doug guard, and more recently, when a group of BASE jumpers leaped off it, security in general lyutuet. They are then normally Bugger for it. Therefore, it was necessary to climb the Arc before dawn.
You may have noticed that all the photos were taken already on top, this is a consequence of what I wrote above. When we approached it was still dark, and when it came down, we had to hurry.
On the one hand - 150 meters, about anything, but on the other ... when you climb up and see how you swim under a cloud (perhaps it was the fog), breathtaking. It was one of the coolest and memorable sunrises in my life.
And now a bit of information about the object:
"Arc" - a Soviet-horizon radar system for early detection of launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
27 years ago it was a top secret object allows you to monitor the movement of all types of aerial purposes, not only over Europe, but also made it possible to pinpoint a potential enemy ICBM launches in North America. With the help of the most powerful and cutting edge (at that time) military radar could, in the truest sense of the word, to look beyond the horizon. It is clear that thanks to his ability, this complex was named "Duga 1" (Radio Center Chernobyl-2 long-distance).
Radar working in the frequency range 5-28 MHz.
Antennas are built on the principle of phased array antenna. Since the two supplied also one antenna can not cover such a wide frequency band, the entire range is divided into two sub-bands and antenna arrays:
- Low-frequency antenna height mast 148 meters, length 450 meters.
- High-frequency antenna: approximately 250 meters in length and 90 meters in height.
At this size, the object is visible from almost anywhere in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
According to available information, Duga consume about 10 megawatts. It is obvious that the construction of Duga near the nuclear power plant due to the large power consumption of the object. Importantly, Duga in Chernobyl-2 is only intended for receiving a signal, transmitting center was located near the village near the town of Rassudov Ljubech (Chernihiv region), 60 km from the Chernobyl-2. The transmitting antenna is also built on the principle of phased array antenna, and were smaller and lower its height is 85 meters. At the moment, the radar is destroyed.
The first pilot inclusion Duga Chernobyl-2: 1980. According to some sources, the cost of capital amounted to seven billion Soviet rubles. For comparison - it is twice as expensive than the construction of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Near radar, built near the city of Chernobyl, the garrison was established, where the military and their families lived. The garrison was stationed a military unit Deep Space Communication.
Duga was adopted by the Soviet air defense combat duty in 1985, and in 1986 the system was fully upgraded and began to pass state acceptance. Prior to upgrading the use Duga was difficult because of the range of operating frequencies coincide with the frequency of the aircraft systems. After upgrading the problem of coincidence workers Duga frequencies to civil aviation frequencies it has been solved. However, after the Chernobyl accident in 1986, Chernobyl-2 facility has ceased to carry on combat duty.
Full closure of Chernobyl-2 infrastructure of the city was carried out at once: it was mothballed until 1987. But over time it became clear that to operate it under the exclusion zone is impossible. Duga the main system components were removed and taken to the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
Today ironwork look quite reliable, and most importantly - they serve their functional purpose - to keep themselves a whopping load of them mounted on the radar elements (cables carrying masts, vibrators) without significant corrosion damage.
Behind the characteristic sound of the air produced when (knock), was named Russian Woodpecker (Russian Woodpecker).
There were constructed 3 similar objects:
- In the village. Big Cartel (Khabarovsk Territory), near Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
- In the area of Chernobyl (Chornobyl object 2)
- Experimental set near Nikolayev
Two of the three dismantled today. Antennas Nikolaev and Komsomolsk-na-dismantled by industrial detonation. But scientists have calculated that there is a possibility of the earthquake after this iron wall will fall. And as the station is only 10 kilometers, about blasting can be no question. It remains an option - apart, but it is too expensive. It turns out that it would be desirable and it is pricked. And there anyway 760,000 tons of metal!
As for me, so this place should be left as a symbol of the era.
But there are rumors that some company won the tender for the analysis of "Arc".
the sunrise, we quickly descended (ascent took 25 minutes, the descent - 10) and left the facility.
Everything I wanted, I looked, now it is necessary to get out of the zone safely.
I have to say, what to choose well, without any adventure. However, he wiped his feet and returned to Kiev in the women's flip-flops with a bow on her bare feet. When waiting for a minibus in the village Detyatki, we dug up the cops. To the question: "What are you doing here" - we replied - "We arrived at the barbecue." But they did not believe us. Forced to show the contents of the backpack. By the way, all the cards with the photos I hid and left the chamber, which nasnimal specifically on the case, if we get caught in the area. But now it has turned into dirt. So I pull out the camera, I go into the menu and press to format the card. All photos are deleted in front of the cops. Of course, they have suggested that there should be more cards, but they could not find. So they just stolen my flint and hunting match! MATCH !!! What the hell?!
By the way, because of them we missed the minibus and had to call a taxi.
Upon returning to Kiev, I first went to the shower and changed clothes. And then I went to the McDuck. It was the most delicious Big Mac that I have ever eaten. And then it was a dream. The long-awaited dream. Until then, I had not slept for two days.
