Kiev 100 years ago and today
• Kiev 100 years ago and today
The most interesting project of the special issue of "beautiful country", dedicated to Kiev, the city was a comparison of the current that was captured on the century-old photographs. Fortunately, the old photos in high resolution are stored on the server, the Library of Congress and are freely available.
We chose a dozen of the most interesting spots, though how many have retained their awareness, printed patterns in color and off to compare.
View on Podil. City ended in Kurenivka area. Area consisting of new buildings in the upper right corner has increased over the last twelve years.
In contrast today's red building of the University them. Shevchenko was a monument to Nicholas I, a much more beautiful pedestal than the monument to Taras Shevchenko today. The situation has changed, but the whole place is guessed.
The area at the Merchant Assembly (today - Philharmonic) before looked far more compositional integrity and cozy than the current European area. In the center was one of the terms of fountains and alley leading to the observation platform has been designated the arch of incredible beauty. Today, the viewing platform is also worth rainbow arch, and under it - two half-naked Man, symbolizing the friendship between Ukraine and Russia. Remove the European area with the same height it did not work - hotel lobby is too high and the windows do not come from within.
Monument to Vladimir with a cross had to take a few more to the left because of the grown trees. On the other side - sleeping areas.
Sofia area, if you look at the cathedral, virtually unchanged. It appeared pavers and luxury housing, next to the fence of Sofia. Yes and transport increased. We have tried to recreate the time of day, but in the old photographs, painted by hand, colorist wanted to see the sunset, although the building lit from the east and from the west horizon red. We decided not to split hairs - filmed at night.
I do not nostalgetik, but the chain bridge, which could easily be compared to Budapest, looked much nicer current metro bridge. During low water the ruins of its towers can be seen a few meters from the Metro bridge.
Around Laura added vegetation, road junctions become tricky, embankment paved with stone and painted graffiti.
St. Andrew's Church. It should be noted that Photoshop has appeared much earlier than it might seem at first glance. Designers worked not only with color, what I have already mentioned, but also with the clone stamp: is a column, and no wires. In the sky, but there, overwrite it was difficult under the dome of the church, and zoom in the old version of the program, obviously, it was not.
Street Gorodetsky. The fact that the colorist picking neutral colors for a picture, suggest the color of clothes of men in the picture, they are not reliable. Pink building on the modern photo - the same as the old, it is a conservatory.
From the old Downtown nothing left. Today - this is the so-called "Stalinist architecture", well-recognized in many countries of the former Soviet bloc.
Entrances to St. Michael's Cathedral and Lavra. I find it difficult to judge the technology however, shooting great-great-grandfathers of time, they do not avoid the distortion: Lavra belfry is exactly, but the dome will draw the right.
