Chinese robot is doing a back flip. How's that, Boston Dynamics?
Do you still remember the robot from Boston Dynamics American company? Lately them virtually unheard, and yet just a couple of years ago we all admire their acrobatic stunts and joking about the uprising of machines. Perhaps someday the company will surprise us, but for now their attention is drawn to the works of the Chinese firm Unitree Robotics. In May 2019 she showed the world the four-legged robot AlienGo, which is very similar to the American SpotMini. It turned out that the Chinese copy is more flexible and is able to perform such tricks that robot dog from Boston Dynamics are not even dreamed of.
First, let's talk about SpotMini - what he knows? Boston Dynamics has positioned it as a robot to assist at the construction sites, where it can really come in handy. For example, it can move freely in the room with the stairs, carry heavy bags on itself, and even haul multi-ton trucks. Also, the robot can be equipped with a mechanical arm, which is able to open doors and pick up objects.
Chinese robot flips
The Chinese robot AlienGo a hand there, but he has more various sensors and mobile elements. Thanks to all this, the robot is able not only to lean forward and backward, but also to make the slopes and torso twists. Also, looking at the video, it seems that it is much easier for the robot SpotMini. Perhaps because of that he can perform somersaults and quickly stand up from a lying position. On the whole, China's robot look more smooth, whereas the American SpotMini moves jerkily.
It is noteworthy that AlienGo was established on the basis of Laikago robot. His 24-pound predecessor was developed by Unitree Robotics in 2017, and features the ability to lift weights up to 7 kg. The manufacturer still improves the robot and at the moment he is called Laikago Pro. Today, he is so smart and strong, which can with their "relatives" to raise the man and pull a heavy car. Look at it yourself.
The best manufacturer of robots
Looking at AlienGo robot capabilities can say with certainty that the young company Unitree Robotics has the potential to become more popular in 1992 based Boston Dynamics. Even if the Chinese robots will not be able to continue to amaze with new abilities, they can draw attention to the low cost of buyers. Price SpotMini robot from Boston Dynamics is still unknown, but it is clearly high. Company Unitree Robotics, in turn, offers to buy Laikago robot for 45,000 dollars. By the way, SpotMini there is another competitor - a giant robot ANYmal
Mechanical dogs from Unitree Robotics Boston Dynamics and look very cool, but they did not carry out the most serious work. If you want to look for a truly useful robot, pay attention to the development of space agency NASA. It recently completed testing of the robot-climber LEMUR, thanks to which it will be possible to search for minerals on Mars.
