SpaceX has told about the possibilities of satellite Starlink
Earlier this week, Elon Musk showed a photo of the Falcon 9 rocket, loaded with a few tens of compact Internet communications satellites Starlink project. 60 vehicles that will be launched May 16 at the low-Earth orbit, fairly tightly placed at the top of the launcher. Today, SpaceX has shared some details about how these satellites will work.
Each carrier satellite panel comprises multiple antennas, high-capacity and a solar panel. The weight of each satellite is only 227 kilograms. In other words, they are very light and compact. But despite its size and weight, the devices are equipped with the most advanced space technologies.
Each satellite pleased the Hall (electric motor) operating on krypton gas. These engines satellites will be used for orientation in space, as well as adjusting the height of the orbit. In addition, each satellite is equipped with a navigation system Startracker that will allow SpaceX to know the exact location of each device and send them to the desired point in space.
In Earth orbit is a lot of debris (remaining after the launch of the missile, not fallen and burned in the atmosphere, non-functioning satellites, a huge number of different microdebris), so there is a risk of collision. However, each capable of tracking satellite Starlink NEO debris and optionally in the automatic mode change its orbit, thereby avoiding collision probability. It is impossible not to mention one more very important detail. SpaceX approached very seriously to the question of the likelihood of new space debris. Each satellite 95 percent is made of materials that will burn with no problems in the atmosphere of the planet after the apparatus will work its inherent resource. In the future, the company intends to produce satellites from 100 percent combustible materials.
Recall that the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket with 60 satellites Starlink to be held early in the morning on 16 May. However, the company has a backup window the next day, in case you have to move the launch due to bad weather (which happens often in practice SpaceX). Launching 60 satellites will begin creating a network of Starlink satellite Internet, which in total will consist of approximately 12,000 units. Launch of satellites the company expects to spend up to the mid 2020s.
