E2-DR: a robot that can operate in the most extreme conditions
I question the use of robotics to assist a person in emergency situations people have wondered for a long time. The problem is that such robots should be strong, agile and thus have a sufficiently high autonomy. One of these robots recently presented by Honda. Their humanoid robot called E2-DR and shows excellent results.
The height of the robot is 168 cm, weight - 85 kg. He is able to walk on two or four legs, crawl through the pipes on the fragments, to bend, can open the door and even squeeze through narrow passages. In addition, E2-DR is able to fix their damage and to avoid further damage. All of the robot and control system elements are not interconnected by conventional electrical wires and fiber optic cables.
Bot battery has a capacity of 1000 watts per hour, a charge which lasts for 90 minutes of continuous operation. The "brain" of the robot performs Intel Core-i7 and specially modified graphics processor that processes the information coming from the cameras. The robot is equipped with laser range finders brand Hokuyo, SR4000 pair of cameras monocular camera with a wide viewing angle and an infrared vision system with an external illumination system. Each of the triaxial manipulators robot is equipped with sensors and additional cameras.
In addition, the robot's design prevented from entering into the moving parts of the dust and dirt, and a special cooling system does not allow the robot to overheat during operation.
