Toyota unveiled its concept of a flying car, which will be released in 2020
One of the world's largest automakers, Japanese company Toyota presented its vision of the future of flying cars. From all the other concept is different in that the automaker representatives say the release a full version of the flying car to the top of the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. According to the creators, the flying car will be required to participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympics, so the project will most likely be published in due time.
For the realization of the idea the Japanese have invested 42, 5 million Japanese yen (about 375,000 US dollars) in Cartivator project. The technology of using multiple rotors, used for the flight of this vehicle is very similar to the one used in most of today's drones. The project of a flying car from Toyota has received the code name SkyDrive.
SkyDrive represents a single three-wheeled vehicle equipped with four rotors whose dimensions are 2, 9 meters in length, and 1, 3 meters wide. If the concept will not undergo significant changes, SkyDrive will be the smallest car in the world flying. By moving the "traditional" way (i.e., on ordinary roads) car can reach a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, and the stated rate of displacement of the air is equal to 150 kilometers per hour with a minimum height of 10 meters in the flight. With a similar design with drones, SkyDrive is equipped with a vertical takeoff and landing. For the development of the car manufacturers attracted a huge group of engineers not only from the automotive industry, but also from the aerospace field. At the moment, the authors set very optimistic and next year plans to release the first prototype. In addition, it is already being discussed that SkyDrive can be used to deliver the Olympic flame and ignite the torch at the central stadium of Tokyo during the opening of the Olympics in 2020.
